The Boys & Girls of South Georgia started here in Lowndes County, right in the heart of downtown Valdosta at what is now the Donald F. Reames Teen Center! 82 years ago, our community saw a need: our country was in the middle of World War II, and fathers, brothers, uncles, and friends were gone - many not returning - and young boys needed a safe, grounding space to become men. Enter the Boys Club of Valdosta...
82 years later, here we are!! Still serving the children who need us most as the Boys & Girls Club of South Georgia.
What can you expect when you step into any of our BGC buildings? You'll see kids in classrooms engaging with certified teachers in academic enrichment. You'll see them learning what it means to be kind and compassionate through our Bible-based character program. You'll see them on the field, playground, or in the gym getting their energy out through dynamic programming with their Youth Development Professional (YDP).
At the David S. Waller Unit, we serve children in Kindergarten through 5th grade!
In the Donald F. Reames Teen Center, we serve teens in middle and high school.
At our Lake Laurie Unit, we serve kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
We believe every child deserves a safe place to learn and grow. At the Boys & Girls Club, we come alongside our community's families to provide just that: a space where our kids are safe, loved, and learning every day. Our children are growing up in a complex world. At the Boys & Girls Club, kids are learning that good character and hard work open the door to a bright future.
Key Programs
Our programs are built around the core components of Character & Leadership, Academic Success, and Healthy Lifestyles . Each day, afterschool and in the summer, our sites operate full schedules including homework time, certified teachers, nutritious meals, and, of course, fun programs such as book club, r obotics, the arts, kayaking, workforce development, and so much more!
